BIRDS (K-6)

Gehlen Catholic Elementary utilizes Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) in its efforts to enhance the school climate. PBIS is a system that provides structure and support for developing positive and proactive school-wide behavior expectations and individualized intervention strategies which:

• Promote a positive learning environment
• Create a positive culture
• Teach and reinforce appropriate behaviors
• Prevent problem behaviors.

Gehlen Catholic’s version of PBIS is known as BIRDS, which stands for:

Features of BIRDS enhance the current positive climate of Gehlen Catholic by helping staff, students, and parents to define behavioral expectations, ensure that expectations are taught to all students, encourage and support recognition of behavioral expectations, and develop a systematic response to behavioral violations through information gathered and reviewed locally.
