PTA aka T.E.A.M

Gehlen Catholic Elementary School Parent/Teacher’s Association a.k.a. T.E.A.M.

T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More) is Gehlen Catholic’s Parent/Teacher Association.  Through T.E.A.M.’s collaborative efforts, we have been able to leverage our resources of time, talents, and treasures to increase the success of students, parents, and teachers alike.

Every parent is automatically considered to be part of T.E.A.M. Whether or not you are able to make it to the monthly meetings we are always looking for volunteers, input and suggestions. If you cannot come to the monthly meetings please read the monthly meeting minutes and send an email to one of the officers with your feedback.

If you would like to volunteer for any events at the school you must take the Virtus course.

The goals and duties of T.E.A.M. are to:

1. Meet Monthly to coordinate the T.E.A.M. sponsored events and activities.

2. Provide Refreshments to Faculty & Staff during Homecoming, Conferences, Christmas, and Teacher Appreciation Week.

3. Provides Refreshments to volunteers during Then Feed Just One packing day as a thank you and to give volunteers an opportunity to discuss and reflect.

4. Provide a luncheon for the faculty and staff and recess and cafeteria duty coverage during Catholic Schools Week.

5. Through the “Prayer and a Pot Roast” program we offer to provide support to current families, faculty and staff that are facing major health issues or other crises. Our support is primarily in the form of meals, gift cards for food or gas. Families or individuals that are in need of assistance are identified to the Prayer and a Pot Roast liaison. The liaison then contacts the family to see if they wish to receive support. If support is declined then those wishes are respected. If support is accepted then the liaison will put forth an email to those on the listserv with details of the need.

6. Conducts one Fundraising activity each school year to raise money to fill gaps in the budget for Teacher needs.

7. Conducts one Fundraising event to raise money to maintain and upgrade the Playground until such time it is included in the general school budget and planning.

8. Sponsors a Green and Jean day for donations to support an Emergency Fund for current Gehlen families to assist those in need, with the purchase of school uniforms and school supplies. Please contact Lisa Niebuhr if you are in need of such assistance.

9. Organizes fun activities for families such as the Open House Ice Cream Social and Pizza and Bingo night.

10. Participates in the Homecoming Parade.

T.E.A.M. is an organization founded upon the philosophy of stewardship.  T.E.A.M. believes that individuals must give equally of their time, talents, and treasures to ensure the strength of our school and greater community.  Through this model, T.E.A.M. has been able to foster greater parental and staff collaboration, which ultimately fosters greater growth of everyone.

In the past years, T.E.A.M. has refurbished the playground, bought new basketball hoops, the zipper slide, the hanging bar, Pike’s Peak, and the tornado slide.  The proceeds from the annual bake sale have provided T.E.A.M. the financial resources to purchase the equipment.  Then, parents, staff, and even some local businesses have donated the human resources to install the pea gravel cushion and equipment. We are now beginning the process of research and fundraising to address the need to replace the wooden structure on the playground with a larger and more modern structure to engage the students. We are also setting a goal to upgrade from pea gravel to a solid rubberized surfacing.

If you would like to help us achieve our goals for the playground more quickly, please feel free to make monetary donations to T.E.A.M. at any time. Simply go to the school website and under “Giving” select online Donation and make sure to specify that the donation is for T.E.A.M. for playground upgrades. Feel free to contact the school with any questions.
