Gehlen Catholic's "Superior" Bands

The Gehlen Catholic has been blessed with a "superior" Instrumental Music Department. They are looking forward to another great year!

The 2018 Gehlen Catholic Competition Marching Band (CMB) was blessed with another very good fall. The CMB earned at:  Starfest (Sioux City): 1st place in Class 1A; Wildcat Classic (Millard West, Omaha, Nebraska):  1st place in Class 1A-prelims & 11th overall in finals; "I" rating at the Iowa High School Music Association's State Marching Band Contest; & Dutchmen Field Championships (Orange City): 1st Place in Class 1A, Best Drum Line, Best Color Guard, Best Horn Line, and Best Field Conductor.

The Gehlen Catholic CMB competed & performed at the 2018 Valero Alamo Bowl in December 2018. The CMB earned 1st place overall in Class 1A, plus Best Color Guard, Music, & General Effects. in the field show competition, They tied for 1st place in Class 1A for Marching & Maneuvering.

This is the Marching Jays 6th Bowl appearance.  The CMB's past Bowls* include:

2015 Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando, Florida, & Universal's Macy's Christmas Parade;

2012 Bridgeport Education Holiday Bowl, the Big Bay Balloon Parade, & the field show competition, San Diego, California;

2009 Champs Sports Bowl & field show competition in Orlando, Florida;

2007 Valero Alamo Bowl, field show & parade competition, all in San Antonio, Texas

2005 Auto Zone Liberty Bowl & field show competition in Memphis, Tennessee.

The CMB's trips encompass faith, academic, music & service components.

The 2018-2019 Gehlen Catholic Jazz I had a good season. 

During the 2017-2018 school year, the Jazz Band placed (all in Class 1A):

Iowa Lakes Community College Jazz Festival: 3rd

Iowa High School Music Association Districts:  5th 

Morningside College Jazz Band Festival: 4th in Class 1A & Outstanding Musician Award:  Matt Pavel.   

Annually in the spring, students perform at the Iowa High School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Contest.  This year, Anthony Vera & Donald Loutsch received a "I" for their flute duet; Tyler Zenk received a "I" for his trumpet solo; Carson Tesch & Allison Ruden also received a "I" rating for their percussion duet.  

Most importantly, the 5-12 Instrumental Music Department wishes to thank those individuals and businesses for their support! The success of the Instrumental Music Department is attributed to your gift of time, talents, and treasures!

We wish to welcome Mr. Nathan Klaumann as our new 5th-12th grade Instrumental Music Instructor for the 2019-2020 school year.
