Leadership and Student Achievements

Gehlen Catholic is blessed each year with a terrific student body! They receive numerous individual and group honors year after year thanks to their hard work and dedication, along with the support of their families andteachers/moderators.

All State High School Choir: Trevor Oloff

American Legion & Legion Auxiliary 5th & 6th Grade Essay Winners:  Elizabeth Hitchler & Kate Bonderson.

Art-State of Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Poster Contest Winner:  Braden Bollin, Class III (6th & 7th grade age group). 

Bishop’s Excellence in Education Award:  5-12 Instrumental Music Director, Mr. Paul Niebuhr. 

Cross Country-State: Will Roder placed 3rd.  Only one other athlete finished higher at State-Paul  Barnhart (’86) placed 2nd in 1984 & 1985. 

CYO 2017 Boys Track Coach of the Year:  Coach Jeremy Schindler.

CYO 2017 Volleyball & Msgr. Tolan Award:  Coach Mike Meyer.

Dance-Solo Competition:  Sydney Logan-1st place & Ally Aquino-7th place

Iowa State Dance & Drill Team Association’s 2018 Team Championships: The dance team placed 5th in Kick (Class 1A) & 2nd in Jazz (Class 2A). 

KMEG Above & Beyond Award:  Trevor Oloff, 1st recipient for the 2018-2019 school year.

Marching Band: Wildcat Classic (Omaha)-1st Place, Class C (Prelims) & 11th overall (Finals); Starfest:  1st Place-Class 1A; State:  “I” rating; Dutchmen Field Championships:  1st Place (overall), Best Field Conductor, Color Guard, Drum & Horn Lines (All Class 1A); & the 2018 Valero Alamo Bowl Field Show Competition-1st Place Overall, Best Color Guard, Music & General Effects & tied for Best Marching & Manuevering (All Class 1A).

NWIBA JH Honor Band:  Addison Arens.

NWICDA Junior High Honor Choir:  Jenna Morris, Cadence Goebel, Leah Langel, Kaylee Arens, Veronica Buman, Kaylee Linden, Josie Scheitler, Colin Norfolk, Christina Thoms, Aspen Mosher, Landon Jeppesen, Brenna Bock, Cara Woerdehoff & Braeden Bollin.

Opus Honor Choir:  Dylan Lehmann (3rd year & soloist finalist), Josie Scheitler (4th year), & Aiden Spangler (4th year)

NWICDA High School Honor Choir:  Madeline Begnoche, Grace Kreber, Jacqueline Munoz, Harlie Tesch, Alexander Buman, Trevor Oloff, Christopher Fuentes, & Ty Linden.

Volleyball-State Class 1A Semifinalists:  For the 9th time in 10 years, the volleyball team qualified for State.  The girls fought hard against Holy Trinity Catholic in the semifinals. The team ended the season 28-5.
