Leadership and Student Achievements

Gehlen Catholic is blessed each year with a terrific student body! They receive numerous individual and group honors year after year thanks to their hard work and dedication, along with the support of their families andteachers/moderators.

2016-17 School Year Highlights

  • Congratulations to Katie Peters and Catalina Uribe for being selected for the All Tournament team at the CYO volleyball tournament.
  • Congratulations to Zach Kraft (also a soloist), Easton Macklem, Dylan Lehmann, Josie Scheitler, Kaylee Linden, David Begnoche, and Aiden Spangler to have been selected for the OPUS Honor Choir.
  • Congratulations to Carlyn Bretey (3rd year) and Chris Fuentes for being selected for the All State Honor Choir!
  • The competition marching band received a "1" rating at State. The Gehlen color guard received the best colorguard award in class 1A at the Dutchmen Field Championships.
  • Congratulations to the Gehlen Dance team at State Dance! They received 5th place in Kick and 4th place in Lyrical!
  • Congratulations to the 7th grade students that placed in the top 10 as a team in the Math Bee! Carson Sitzmann placed in the top 20 in the individual competition!
  • Congratulations to Madison Schroeder, Kaleigh Ripley, and Atze Atsma who received Superior (1) ratings at the State Individual Speech contest!

2015-2016 School Year Highlights

  • Congratulations to 5th grader Josie Scheitler whose D.A.R.E.t-shirt design adorns the Just Say No T-shirts this year with the theme “Staying Drug Free is the best you Can BEE!"
  • Congratulations to Ty Linden, Josie Scheitler, Zach Kraft, Trevor Oloff, Kaylee Linden, and Aiden Spangler to have been selected for the OPUS Honor Choir.
  • Congratulations to Carlyn Bretey for being selected for the All State Honor Choir.
  • Sydney Livermore was named the Central Division Winner of the American Legion Auxiliary's National Poppy Poster Contest.
  • Congratulations to the Lady Jaysvolleyball team!For the seventh consecutive year, the Lady Jays headed to State.
  • Congratulations to Braden Bollin who won 1st place in the State KC State Spelling Bee in the 4th grade competition.
  • Congratulations to Sarah Henrich who was selected to perform at the All State Individual Speech contest.
  • Congratulations to Kenzie McCallan whosepainting entitled “FEAR”was accepted for the Sioux City Art Center show and also received Honorable Mention honors at the 12th gradelevel.
  • K-12 Art Teacher Beth Schlichte was one of two educators in the Diocese of Sioux City chosen to recieve theExcellence in Education Award that was awarded at the Bishops Dinner.
  • Congratulations to Megan Kellen, Tyler Zenk, and Jordan Larson for their selection to theDrake Honor Band.Drake's Honor Band provides students an opportunity to perform in an All-State type ensemble.
  • Congratulations to the Gehlen Dance Team who won 4th place out of 11 teams at the State Dance competition!
  • TheCompetition Marching Bandreceived top honors again this year in Class 1A placing 1st at Dutchmen Field Championships,and a “I” rating at State.The Gehlen drumline received the best drumline award in Class 1A.
  • Congratulations to both the Triple Trio and Chamber Choir were named Best of Center at the State Solo/Ensemble contest. In addition to being chosen Best of their Center, they both received Perfect Scores!
